Background
Over the past few years, the tourism industry has grown astronomically. Ever since the emergence of travel apps and low-cost flights, our traveling experience hasn’t been the same. It’s even safe to say that both of these factors drastically influence the way that we perceive tourism. Nowadays, traveling across the globe is much more affordable. Although our modern-world routine is busy and increasingly demanding, we’d never consider skipping our annual vacation.
Problem
FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is one of the most frequently used terms in our culture. We want to do everything, be everywhere and never miss a beat. The same goes for our vacations, where we want to accomplish as much as possible in a short amount of time. Due to our intense lifestyle nowadays, most of us don’t actually have the time to plan a trip from A to Z. This only increases our FOMO and generates confusion - especially during the vacation itself.
Solution
GYOW — Go Your Own Way, the app that custom tailors your perfect vacation schedule.
Our concept of the perfect vacation varies from one person to another, each of us has individual wants and preferences. This is where GYOW comes in, organizing and managing the vacation for you. The idea is simple: answer a short questionnaire about your personal preferences, trip details and desired attractions and the app will then generate a personalized trip timetable. GYOW reduces the time you dedicate to vacation planning and overcomes FOMO by covering anything you want to accomplish on your trip.
Research
The first step I took in this project was to conduct a survey. Using the responses received, I tried understanding most people’s vacation habits: how they prepare in advance, the difficulties they come across before going on a vacation, and what could help in alleviating them.
